It was a moment of jubilation for leaders, residents, and business owners in the Uhogua community and environs as the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki delivered, a 500KVA transformer to restore power and boost economic activities after almost two decades of living in darkness.
The impact of Governor Obaseki’s reforms in the energy sector is now being felt in Uhogua in Ovia North-East Local Government Area, which has now joined the rest of the state to experience increased access to electricity supply.
The Enogie of Ohogua Dukedom, Hrh Osagumwenro Eresoyen, who was represented by Chief Festus Omorefe, thanked Governor Godwin Obaseki for installing the 500KVA transformer to the community, which he said has not had electricity supply for over 15 years, leading to the collapse of economic activities.
The elder said the community is happy to join its nieghbours who are thriving as a result of steady power supply.
He said: “We want to sincerely thank the Governor, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki for remembering us, we are so happy about this new 500KVA transformer he has brought to our community.
“This community is very large, and the issue of absence of electricity has been a critical one which every resident here has suffered for about 15 years now.
A bar owner, Mrs. Happy Friday, commended Governor Godwin Obaseki, noting that her business has witnessed a boom with the installation of the transformer.
She said: “I am very happy about the fact that we now have access to electricity. Due to the nature of the business I operate, I require light a lot to get my drinks cold and to entertain customers.
“Since the light came on, I’ve been able to cool my drinks without the extra cost of buying ice block.
“I want to say a big thank you to Governor Godwin Obaseki for this development,” she said.
Similarly, Moses Joel, a fashion designer whose store is cited along the Uhogua road, expressed his delight with the new development, saying he will now save costs incurred on buying diesel to power his business.
According to him, the cost of running his business with diesel has been unbearable and has led to a great decline in the profit generated from the business.
He said: “I want to thank Governor Obaseki for bringing electricity to our community with this transformer. Before now, I normally bought diesel to run my shop and it really affected the money I generated from this business.
“But now that we have light courtesy of Obaseki’s good work, my business profit will increase as I don’t have to spend that much anymore,” he said.
